Are there any hypoallergenic properties of Sterling Silver 925?Yes, Sterling Silver 925 is known for its hypoallergenic properties, making it a great choice for individuals with sensitive skin. The alloy that constitutes Sterling Silver 925 consists of 92.5% pure silver, which is naturally hypoallergenic, and 7.5% other metals, typically copper, to increase its durability. The high purity level of silver in Sterling Silver 925 minimizes the risk of allergic reactions, as pure silver does not contain nickel or lead, which are common irritants found in other metal alloys. While Sterling Silver 925 is generally safe for those with metal allergies or sensitive skin, it's important to ensure that the jewelry is indeed made of high-quality Sterling Silver 925, as lower quality silver or silver-plated items may contain nickel or other allergenic metals in the alloy or coating.

How do I care for my silver jewellery?Caring for your sterling silver jewellery is essential to maintain its shine and extend its lifespan. Here are some tips to help you keep your pieces in pristine condition: Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your jewellery with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can also use a mild soap and warm water for a deeper clean, but make sure to dry it thoroughly afterwards. Store Properly: When not in use, store your silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, preferably in a tarnish-preventive bag or a jewellery box with compartments and dividers to prevent scratches. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Remove your silver jewellery before using household cleaners or when swimming in chlorinated water, as harsh chemicals can cause tarnishing. Polish Gently: Use a special silver polish cloth or a soft sponge with silver polish to gently remove tarnish. Avoid using paper towels or toothpaste, as they can scratch the surface. Wear it Often: Interestingly, wearing your silver jewellery can help prevent tarnish due to the oils in your skin. So, don't hesitate to flaunt your pieces! Handle with Care: Be mindful of wearing jewellery when performing tasks that may cause damage. Removing your jewellery while cooking, gardening, or during sports activities can prevent accidental damage. Professional Cleaning: For intricate pieces or stubborn tarnish, consider getting your jewellery professionally cleaned. We have the tools and knowledge to safely restore your silver's shine.

Why does my sterling silver jewellery look black or discolored, and how can I fix it?The black or discolored appearance on your sterling silver jewellery is a result of a natural process called tarnishing. Tarnish occurs when silver reacts with sulfur-containing substances in the air, cosmetics, perspiration, rubber, chlorinated water, and even certain foods. This reaction forms a surface layer of silver sulfide, which appears as a dark tarnishing over time. While tarnishing is common and can affect the appearance of your silver jewellery, it's not permanent and can be easily fixed. Here's how you can restore the shine to your sterling silver jewelry: Gentle Cleaning: For light tarnishing, simply use a soft, lint-free cloth to polish your jewellery. A special silver cleaning cloth is preferred, which has mild polishing compounds embedded in the fabric. Soap and Water: If the tarnish is a bit more stubborn, wash your jewellery using warm water and a mild, ammonia- and phosphate-free dishwashing soap. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Baking Soda Paste: For more significant tarnishing, make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply a small amount onto a soft cloth and gently rub the silver in a circular motion. Rinse the jewellery with warm water and dry it thoroughly. Silver Dip Cleaners: Commercial silver cleaners and dips can effectively remove tarnish but should be used sparingly. These products can be harsh and may remove the antique look of some silver pieces or harm gemstones. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Professional Cleaning: If the tarnish is deeply set or if you're unsure about cleaning it yourself, professional cleaning by a jeweler is recommended, especially for pieces with intricate designs or delicate gemstones. Prevention Tips: To minimize tarnishing, store your silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, ideally in a tarnish-preventive bag. Limit exposure to air and moisture by sealing your jewelry in ziplock bags when not in use. Avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals, including chlorine, cosmetics, hairspray, and perfumes. Remember, tarnish is a common and natural occurrence for sterling silver jewellery. With proper care and cleaning, your sterling silver pieces can easily be returned to their original luster and enjoyed for many years to come.

What is Sterling Silver 925?Sterling Silver 925, often referred to simply as "sterling silver," is a high-quality alloy that consists of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper. The addition of copper or other metals enhances the durability, hardness, and tarnish resistance of pure silver, making Sterling Silver 925 an ideal material for crafting jewelry and other items that require both beauty and strength. The "925" hallmark, stamped on sterling silver items, signifies the purity level of the silver, ensuring that you are getting a product made with 92.5% pure silver. This standard has been used for centuries and is recognized worldwide as a mark of quality and authenticity in silver goods. Sterling silver is cherished for its bright, metallic luster and its ability to be finely crafted into intricate designs. While it is more durable than pure silver, sterling silver can still tarnish over time when exposed to air and certain chemicals. However, with proper care and cleaning, items made from Sterling Silver 925 can retain their beauty and luster for generations. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, sterling silver is also hypoallergenic, making it a popular choice for those with sensitive skin. Whether for everyday wear or special occasions, sterling silver jewelry offers a timeless elegance that complements any style.

Can I wear my silver jewellery in water? We recommend exercising caution when wearing your sterling silver jewellery in water. Sterling Silver 925, while durable and high-quality, can react with various chemicals found in water, especially chlorine in pools, salt in seawater, and minerals in hot springs. These reactions can lead to tarnishing and potential damage over time. For day-to-day activities like washing your hands or showering with mild soaps, your silver jewellery should be fine. However, to preserve its shine and extend its life, it's best to remove your silver jewellery before swimming in pools, the ocean, or soaking in hot springs. Regular cleaning and proper care will keep your silver jewellery looking its best for years to come.
